  • 3 cups plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 5 tbsp granulated sugar for coating
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon for coating
  • 1 3/4 tsp ground nutmeg for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract; mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in diced apples gently.
  6. In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for coating.
  7. Scoop dough into balls, roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture, and place on prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for about 8 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
